| Last year, Dr. Henry Lee told you what they did with evidence in the Crime Lab. Dick Warrington will tell you how to collect it and get it to the Lab. |
| Richard Warrington started in the
field of law enforcement in August 1971. In 1978, Mr.
Warrington created the Crime Scene Unit for the Shawnee County (Kansas)
Sheriff's Department. He became the lead crime scene officer in
the Capital Area Major Case Squad in 1979 until his retirement in 1996.
He is currently a member of the Kansas I. A. I. and a Board member for
the International Crime Scene Investigators Association. Mr. Warrington has published articles in the "Journal of Forensic Identification," Law Enforcement Technology Magazine" and recently, "Evidence Technology Magazine." In 1998, he authored and published the "Death Scene Check List Manual." In 1994, he developed and patented the Blue Light Special. Mr. Warrington currently teaches classes in "Gizmos & Gadgets," basic latent fingerprint processing, developing/lifting prints on textured surfaces and crime scene investigation. He has developed a website to help aid officers in the area of crime scene investigation. Website: Gizmos & Gadgets Wednesday Afternoon Presentation (2 hours) Gizmos & Gadgets Course Abstract: http://csigizmos.com/pdf/gizmo-2-hour.pdf Thursday Afternoon Presentations (2 hours) Two Hands-on Sessions (limited to 30 members per session) Lifting Prints Off Unusual Surfaces Workshop Have you ever thought about lifting fingerprints from a textured surface, a paper towel, a feather, a wet surface, a curved surface, or even the adhesive side of tape? | Mary Fran Ernst will
present a 2-hour Workshop on "The Role of the Medicolegal Death
Investigator and How to Become a Medicolegal Death Investigator."
What is a Medicolegal Death Investigator? A Medicolegal
Investigator is a professional having the legal authority to investigate
deaths for a medicolegal (medical examiner/coroner) jurisdiction, who
performs scene investigations, collects evidence, and develops
decedents' medical and social histories to assist the medical
examiner/coroner in determining the cause and manner of death.
Medicolegal Death Investigators should have a combination of education
and skills encompassing areas of medicine and law. Mary Fran Ernst is Assistant Professor of Pathology and Director of Medicolegal Education at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and a Medicolegal Death Investigator for the Saint Louis County Medical Examiner's Office in Saint Louis, Missouri. She helped establish the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators and was the first individual certified as a Board Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator with the first Board-issued Certificate. As President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), Mary Fran Ernst established the Forensic Education Programs Accreditation Committee. | As Dr. Henry Lee indicated at last
year's Conference, you can get alot of clues to solve crimes at the
crime scene, but sometimes the clues are not in the "crime scene;" they
are in the body of the deceased. Dr. Mary Case is responsible for
this area of the investigation. Dr. Mary E. Case is a Professor of Pathology and Co-Director, Division of Forensic & Environmental Pathology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and Chief Medical Examiner for Saint Louis, Franklin, Jefferson and St. Charles Counties in Missouri. As the Medical Examiner for these four counties, Dr. Case is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death in all sudden, violent and suspicious deaths over an area comprising almost 30% o the population of the State of Missouri. Dr. Case specializes in neuropatholoy, pediatric pathology and child abuse cases. She is an internationally recognized expert in Shaken Baby Syndrome. She has written extensively in child-related injuries and deaths, including "Child Fatality Review" and " Child Fatality Review Quick Reference." Dr. Case is an expert on crimes committed against children. She is currently working on a video that focuses on the issue of alcohol use and level of impairment. As a physician and medical examiner, Dr. Case has a unique perspective on teenage drinking. She is a member of the American Association of Neuropathologists, the National Association of Medical Examiners, and the American Association of Forensic Science. |
